Technology

No matter which Sonata trim model you select, you’ll find an abundance of high-tech infotainment features inside the cabin. Luckily, though, controls are easy to figure out, thanks to a very intuitive layout. Each of these midsize sedans comes standard with an all-inclusive infotainment system, featuring an 8-inch color touch screen and complete smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. When it comes to on-road safety, the Sonata is a major player. Hyundai’s midsize sedan comes standard with high-tech safety systems — including forward collision mitigation with pedestrian detection — that are designed to actively avoid danger. The driver attention warning system even monitors you for signs of fatigue and alerts you when it’s time to pull over for a catnap. You can choose from three Sonata powertrains. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine offers a relatively quick ride, thanks to a healthy output of 191 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque. This base engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission to send a smooth stream of power to the front wheels.

The SEL Plus and Limited balance power and fuel economy with a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine (180 hp, 191 lb-ft). These models also include paddle shifters, giving driving enthusiasts increased control over their ride.

The all-new N Line offers high-performance thrills, speeding up your ride with 290 horses and 311 pound-feet of torque. This engine is paired with the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission for quick-shifting action.

For the thriftiest Sonata performance, look no further than the standard powertrain, which helps you earn up to 32 mpg combined. The upgraded turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine is only slightly less thrifty, offering 30 mpg combined. Unsurprisingly, the sporty N Line powertrain is less efficient, but it’s not too far behind the other models, with a combined EPA rating of 27 mpg.

SEL

What Comes Next for the Hyundai Sonata?
