Speedy and stylish, the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E is expanding the Mustang lineup in new and unexpected ways. This EV crossover delivers everything from a thrilling on-road experience to an upscale interior, combining the sporty aspects of the Ford Mustang with family-friendly interior comfort and all-electric power.

Power and Performance

This all-electric crossover SUV offers a variety of battery and drivetrain combinations. All Mustang Mach-E trim models were designed for a quick, sporty performance, but you’ll find that output and range vary slightly from trim model to trim model.

Most Mustang Mach-E models come standard with rear-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive is always an option. The First Edition and GT models come standard with all-wheel drive and the extended-range battery, for both more speed and a longer driving range.

Wondering how to charge your Ford Mustang Mach-E? Don’t fret, because Ford makes the process completely painless. Every model comes standard with a 120- or 240-volt charging cable. And DC fast-charging capabilities are also standard.

2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E Off-Roading

Because most drivers like to do their charging at home, Ford can install the Ford Connected Charging station in your garage. It includes a 240-volt power outlet and boosts battery charging time by an extra 30 miles per hour of charge. When you’re away from home, plug the Ford mobile charger into any 240-volt outlet to add 20 miles of battery power per charging hour.

Your 2021 Mustang Mach-E also includes access to the FordPass Charging Network, the nation’s largest public charging network. At more than 13,500 charging stations (featuring over 40,000 charge ports), you’ll find DC fast-charge ports that can charge your battery with approximately 61 miles of range per 10 minutes of charge.

And when you’re out on the town and in need of a quick charge, the navigation system can point you to the nearest charging station. It’s even programmed to direct you to the most convenient charging station on your current route, so you never have to worry about a low battery.

We’re also fond of the cabin high-quality cabin materials, which give the cabin a polished look. And the new Mustang Mach-E is vegan-friendly, with faux-leather seating in every model.

Fuel Economy

The EPA measures Mustang Mach-E fuel economy in MPGe (miles per gallon of gasoline-equivalent). This measurement is designed to compare the amount of energy expended by alternative vehicles with that of their gasoline-powered counterparts. It’s not a perfect comparison, but it gives you an idea of how much it costs to power your Mustang Mach-E compared to traditional gas-powered crossovers.

2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E on the Road

Because there are so many different Mustang Mach-E powertrains, MPGe estimates vary from model to model:

  • RWD California Route 1: 101 MPGe (108 city/94 highway MGPe)
  • RWD, standard battery: 100 MPGe (105/93 MPGe)
  • RWD, extended battery: 97 MPGe (104/90 MPGe)

Do I Qualify for a Tax Credit?

Besides a gasoline-free performance, one of the best things about buying a brand new EV is that it often comes with a federal tax credit.

As of this writing, buying a 2021 Mustang Mach-E comes with a $7,500 tax credit. This figure will change, however, because the total tax credit amount is directly related to how many models have been sold. Before you purchase your Mustang Mach-E, check to make sure you meet tax credit criteria.

What Comes Next for the Mustang Mach-E?

Late in the 2021 model year, Ford plans to roll out its Active Drive Assist hands-free semi-autonomous driving system. For now, you can add the Active Drive Assist prep kit. Mustang Mach-Es with the prep kit will be ready for installation when Ford finally releases this exciting on-road technology.
